Hi there—and welcome to Keenly Curious! I’m so excited you’re here. This blog has been a long time coming, and I can’t wait to share travel tips, destination guides, and personal stories from my favorite adventures around the world.
As both a lifelong traveler and now a travel advisor, I’ve had the privilege of experiencing some incredible places, and I truly believe travel can open your mind, shift your perspective, and help you connect more deeply—with the world, yourself, and your loved ones. My goal with Keenly Curious is to help others discover destinations they may have never considered, and to offer practical tips that make every journey smoother, richer, and more meaningful.
Where Keen Curious Comes From
The name Keenly Curious is more than just a catchy phrase—it’s personal. “Keenly” is actually a play on my maiden name, Kuehnle (pronounced Keenly), and this blog is inspired by someone who shaped my life in countless ways: my grandfather, Dr. Kuehnle.
Starting when I was just eight years old, my grandfather made sure I got to see the world and learn from it firsthand. Summer after summer, he and my parents took me on adventures where history came alive, cultures came into focus, and my love for exploration took root. I learned more during those trips than I ever did in a classroom. There’s just nothing like being where it happened!

A Southern Start with a Worldview
I grew up in Natchez, Mississippi, and travel was part of our family rhythm. From yearly road trips to visit relatives in Dallas to family vacations in places like Chicago, D.C., and Disney World, we always had a suitcase ready. But the real magic happened on those summer trips abroad with my grandfather and parents. That’s where the spark really caught fire!
Of all the places I’ve visited, Alaska holds the biggest piece of my heart. I’ve been seven times—and I’m headed back for my eighth visit this August! In high school, when my grandfather could no longer make the trip to a salmon fishing lodge in Unalakleet, I asked my dad if I could go in his place. I wasn’t much of a fisherman at the time, but I was desperate to experience the place I’d heard about since childhood. That first trip led to five unforgettable summers at the Unalakleet River Lodge—and not only did I fall in love with the landscape and the people there, but I also formed a deeper bond with my dad that I will always treasure. As Henry David Thoreau once said, “Many men go fishing all their lives without knowing it’s not the fish they are after.” For us, it was never just about the fishing. It was about the time together, the memories we built, and the shared love for a wild and beautiful place that felt like a second home.

My second favorite? Italy. Rome, Florence, the Amalfi Coast—we explored them all on one of our final trips with my grandfather. The history, the food, the sheer beauty of it all—I fell in love and can’t wait to return!
Why Cruising Works for Me
Cruising quickly became our favorite way to travel—and for good reason. It’s a comfortable, convenient way to see multiple destinations without the stress of constant packing and unpacking. My family tried it all—resorts, bus tours, you name it—but cruising stood out because it had something for everyone. My grandfather, parents, and I could each do what we enjoyed and still come back together at dinner to share stories from the day.
Honestly, some of my most cherished memories are of cruising with my grandfather as my roommate. He’d wake me up far too early, and sometimes drove me a little crazy—but what I wouldn’t give now for one more trip with him!
These days, my husband Aaron and I love cruising together, and it’s become a tradition we also share with both of our families. It’s still the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation—with something for everyone no matter their age or travel style. Whether we’re off on a romantic getaway or bringing the whole crew along, cruising gives us the chance to explore new places and make lasting memories together.

Why I Started Keenly Curious
I started this blog for the same reason I became a travel advisor: to share what I’ve learned and help others travel better, smarter, and more joyfully.
Through Keenly Curious, I hope to connect with clients, fellow travelers, other advisors, and curious minds who just love exploring. Whether you’re preparing for your first cruise, dreaming of Europe, or just here for a little travel daydreaming—I want you to feel welcome and inspired.
Most of all, I hope you’ll come back not just for tips and ideas, but for stories that bring destinations to life!
